I'm excited for this blog to finally get going. I've been writing poetry for many years, but I never showed most of it to the world. My goal with this project is to share my poems and my travels, in both English and Spanish. Especially with the current situation, I aim to spread some joy and hope through my poetry.
I wrote this poem at the beginning of April, at the beginning of the mess we're experiencing. When you can't go anywhere else, a walk through the neighborhood truly feels like an adventure.
On a Walk
I see the houses
in my neighborhood
looking normal
and a wild turkey
trying to walk through a fence,
an enthusiastic girl on a scooter
trailed by mom and a corgi,
a Christmas elephant
still hoping to spread some cheer,
tulip leaves poking up
to say that spring is here,
a cat in a window
staring at the robins,
rainbow hearts and happy messages
on windows and driveways.
I see the houses
in my neighbor hood,
battling and epidemic
and persevering in a lockdown
with kindness, hope,
and laughter.
