A Hopeful Ugh

I don't know about anyone else, but right now, it's easy to look at the world I live in and say "ugh." I took that negative thought and wondered how I could make it more positive. In the end, this poem is a humorous reflection on my own attitude.

Ugh

Ugh said the rock

Ugh? asked the dirt

Yeah, ugh chorused the blades of grass

Ugh answered the rock

Okay, but what’s ugh? wondered the dirt

It’s ugh bellowed the tree roots

Ugh answered the rock

Yeah, ugh chorused the blades of grass

I don’t get it sighed the dirt

Ugh ugh chanted the leaves

Ugh answered the rock

Yeah, ugh chorused the blades of grass

It’s ugh bellowed the tree roots

Just tell me! protested the dirt

Uuuugh cried the clouds

Ugh answered the rock

Yeah, ugh chorused the blades of grass

It’s ugh bellowed the tree roots

Ugh ugh chanted the leaves

Do you see now? asked the flower

Yes, I see now! shouted the dirt

Ugh ugh ugh exclaimed the dirt

Ugh answered the rock

Yeah, ugh chorused the blades of grass

It’s ugh bellowed the tree roots

Ugh ugh chanted the leaves

Uuuugh cried the clouds

Ugh answered the rock

Yeah, ugh chorused the blades of grass

It’s ugh bellowed the tree roots

Ugh ugh chanted the leaves

Uuuugh cried the clouds

Ugh ugh ugh exclaimed the dirt

And so the story goes,

They will keep on ughing

Until there are no ughs left

You can join their song,

But beware:

It’s really quite hard to stop

Once you’ve begun
